Bowling Alone, by Robert Putnam
(10/02) I just started this, and since I just went to the library and
picked up a bunch of lighter reading, I'm not sure when I'll get
around to finishing it. I mean, everybody knows his premise (that
Americans are spending less time together, fragmenting the society),
but I'm curious to see what his analysis is of why this might be so,
and how it can be fixed. So far, it's lots of dry recitation of
statistics, unfortunately. (3/03) Haven't picked it up since October. One of these days.

Cognition in the Wild, by Edwin Hutchins
(12/02) Picked up this book on Brad's
recommendation as a good starting point for cognitive science. It
describes the distributed cognitive processes necessary to run the
navigation team of a ship at sea. It's pretty interesting stuff, but
slow going so far.
