{"id":183,"date":"2004-06-15T00:17:00","date_gmt":"2004-06-15T00:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=183"},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T08:00:00","slug":"keeping-score","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nehrlich.com\/blog\/2004\/06\/15\/keeping-score\/","title":{"rendered":"Keeping Score"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony have apparently launched an effort to bring more people into appreciation of classical music and how it fits together (here&#8217;s the <a href=http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/c\/a\/2004\/06\/15\/DDGBF74GSL1.DTL&#038;type=music>Chronicle article<\/a> this morning).  The effort is called Keeping Score, and is going to be a five year multimedia effort.  The first fruits of that effort are being broadcast this week on PBS in a Great Performances special focusing on Tschaikovsky&#8217;s Symphony No. 4 (<a href=http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wnet\/gperf\/broadcast\/schedule_airdates.html>Check local listings<\/a> &#8211; it&#8217;s at 8pm on KQED in the Bay Area).  The first hour will apparently be a behind the scenes look at how the symphony rehearses and prepares for such a performance, and the second will be a complete performance of the finished work.  Sounds like it could be really interesting.<\/p>\n<p>The effort also includes an online component at <a href=http:\/\/www.keepingscore.org>KeepingScore.org<\/a>, giving the interested viewer a chance to learn more.
