		<description>I too am a &#039;generalist.&#039;

When the Director of consulting for one of the companies I work for asked me my specialty in the catering field, I said, &quot;all of it.&quot;

He specialized in the financial area.. accounting.

I have a degree in accounting/marketing.

Others specialize in culinary areas.

I am a Chef and very good at operational systems...

Some specialize in sales/marketing

I was VP for a major restaurant chain and ran the marketing department before being promoted to Chief Operating Officer.

So he said.  &quot;oh, you are a generalist!&quot;

That bothered me for some reason. Especially when he said that people rarely hire a generalist, then want a specialist....

I said, &quot;Ok, I am a specialist at operating a restaurant and catering company.  (and gardening, and music, and psychology.. very philosophical.. and I carve fruit into works of art as a hobby...&quot;

Then it hit me.  I called him and said, &quot;List me as a &quot;FULL SPECTRUM CONSULTANT&quot; or &quot;Multi-dimensional&quot;

So, my friend, you are a Full Spectrum guy.

Good luck with that... it&#039;s a blessing and a curse as you seem to already know... :)

Enjoying your writings...

		<description>Hi Eric,
I am thoroughly impressed by your introduction of yourself. I am a bit of an &quot;unrepentant generalist&quot; myself. But on a far lower scale.
I have done several things in my life, and am quite sure: nothing was in vain. My experiences made me be the person that I am nowadays and I am quite content being myself. I started out as a interiour painter (attaching wallpapers and applying paint), then went to the travel business (worked for an american airline and several others), went back to school to become an interiour designer. But at that time (being 30) my body took a different decision and so I became a mother instead. After a while I went back to school to study some economics, I had a second child, did an elaborate computer-course. And all these activities lead me to my current job as a secretary the darmstadt university. Not much by your standards (probably) but I am quite happy.
How did I find you?
I googled for the line of a song of one of my (former) favourite bands: the who. Quadrophenia. &quot;I&#039;m a punk with a stutter....&quot;

I hope that I will find the time to explore your homepage more.
And I wish you a good day.
